Olympus 12-100mm f/4 IS Pro is the better lens; way sharper, built like a tank, gives more reach on the wide end and on the tele end, better closest focus, clutch manual focus switch and sync-IS making it WAY better for video without a gimble, which with lens, you basically don't need it.

When I shot Fujifilm, I owned this lens and it's a FANTASTIC lens. I didn't use it for video at all. It was used for travel and street photography. Most people don't know that the X-Trans processor is a 1.53 crop, not 1.5 like Sony and Nikon. Whereas Canon is 1.6. That said, you get 28mm-184mm, rounded up, at f5.6 in full-frame terms. That's a LOT of reach with a lens that's light weight and sharp enough for photography. But here's the thing about the Innanets and Social Media, EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE complains about everything. There is no perfect camera, there is no perfect lens and last but not least, THERE IS NO PERFECT PHOTOGRAPHY OR VIDEOGRAPHER. There doesn't need to be. As a photographer, who does various forms of photography, it's about the Art of Photographer which doesn't require the sharpest image corner to corner. UA-cam especially will have people thinking that they have to have the latest and greatest everything to make good photos. So not true.

I use this lens for hiking and low stakes video projects. Even when I can upgrade to a MKX 18-55mm T2.9 lens I will likely keep this little power zoom for the previously mentioned purposes.

He has since moved on to panasonic if I’m not mistaken, his views quickly changed right after the newer firmware updates which made autofocus mostly unusable.

I love my 16-55. The 16-80 OIS is no slouch and has optical stabilization, which in my view acts better than fuji's ibis on many occasions. The 18-120 after some firmware updates, is no slouch either.

Hi John, considering Sirui is full frame, we are not getting a full potential of this lens (field of view is cropped, part of the image is not captured). T2.9 becomes like F4.35 in DOF terms... Wouldn't it be better to use Laowa 50mm (designed for super35/APSC, with x1.5 anamorphic factor) T2.5. What was your main consideration? Focal lenght, field of view/ angle of view? DOF and how bright the lens is?

Still recommend this today? I just picked up an xs20 and started playing with film sims for photos. Look to avoid editing footage since I’ll be using it for family stuff and fun. Thanks!!

Nice footage! Brother, let me ask you... what kind of stabilization you used? I noticed some artifacts that can be from digital stabilization but the possibility of being due to IBIS stabilization kinda worried me about buying it.

How did you get the f-log 2 in your input gamma?

I’m a newbie, and have always enjoyed editing, so thought I would get my own camera to start making my own content and music videos. Originally I thought I’d decided on the sx-20, but after discovering the xt3, I really like the look of it and feel it might be more financially sensible to get the body, and then invest in a really decent lense. Do you have any advice on good lense pairings for the xt3 for music video/cinematic kinda stuff please? Any advice would be very welcomed 😊

I’d say I’m semi-professional and I’ve just upgraded from x-t3 to x-h2s. Shot my first music video on it the other day and after tests, I think the standard profile is for me. I used a mix of standard and f-log profiles on the x-t3 but now I feel like standard profile is getting amazing results without all the extra work. I’m still getting used to this new camera so I didnt want to risk missing/incorrectly exposing anything because it was a big job but I will delve into f-log2 asap. Always good videos here mate, cheers 🫡

I thought that the magenta colour shift was from infared pollution. It's noticeable when filming in sunny conditions and appears strong in skin tones, darks and shadows. I bought an IR cut filter and it actually really helps!

I just started using a X-S20 and for me the regular footage is beautiful and I am happy with the colors and dynamic range straight out of camera. The VLOG setting helps to limit certain options so I'm not overwhelmed (I'm coming from making videos with an iPhone) so again I'm very happy with the simpler options in the camera. I can see myself in a year or two exploring F-Log 2 as a way to take things to the next level. Thanks for your content!

I completely agree! I started playing with cameras and shooting videos since I was 5 (18 years ago now) and went through all the phases of idolizing gear, wanting to get max DR from log, etc. for “professional” shoots where I want the control it makes sense to have that control in post. But in the 99% of other times where I am just out and about or getting footage with friends, it’s just so much more convenient to shoot in rec709. For personal clips, the objective is to get a shot and have it in my memory archive. I don’t need 10-14 stops or DR or want to heavily color grade or create proxy clips of my friends out an about. Shooting jn rec 709 just removes any hurdles in my process and actually make me want to view/sequence/post my clips without any hassle or significant effort. Same thing with photos: if It looks good enough in camera and I don’t plan on doing major edits, jpegs all the way. I downgraded from the Gh5 to the xt30 because it was just too overkill for my needs. As long as I just expose in camera right, I know Fuji colors (Astia or classic chrome) will be more than enough for me. If I really need more wiggle room, I’ll just turn down highlights and shadows to -2 or shoot in eterna. It has made my process and overall shooting experience so much more enjoyable. Sometimes simple is better, especially in workflows

hey man, I shoot on panasonic for my video production work. I want a small almost point and shoot camera. I am looking at the xt30ii & xs20. I dont want a 100v since ill want to change lenses. Looking for this camera to be a family camera and honestly the lumix s9 doesnt impress me. My hesitation with the xt30ii is that it doesnt have 10bit internal. seems like it doesnt matter since i wont use it professionally. is getting the xs20 overpowered? is it way bigger than the xt30ii? Should I get over it and be fine with 8bit in the xt30ii? help? lol also what small lens do you recommend?

I this because of ND filters that don't block the IR spectrum, also called IR pollution? I know Fuji, Blackmagic and some other brands are susceptible to that.

John the "pink" issue is IR pollution - the IR filtering that fuji uses is not as strong as other brands - this may or not be what gives fuji colors a unique look. you can either stack an IR Cut filter on top of your existing NDs or find an IR/ND combo somewhere.
